Autism and Co-occuring Conditions ONLINE

Is your child awaiting an Autism assessment? Or are they showing signs of Autistic traits and you would like to learn more to help you understand how better to support your child?

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Parent Carer forums have teamed together to deliver a variety of workshops to provide information, support and practical guidance to help you on your journey. This workshop is an ONLINE session focusing on Autism and Co-occurring Conditions.

To book a funded place on this workshop, you MUST live in Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire. The workshop is not designed for parents of children who already have an ASD diagnosis - if your child already has a diagnosis and you need support, please contact your local Parent Carer Forum, on the links below, to find out what support is available.

This workshop is presented by Loren Snow.

Autistic people often share certain life experiences and genetics that lead us to be more at risk of certain conditions. In this session I’ll be briefly covering autism and conditions that often co-occur with it such as:

- What autism is (briefly)

- Neurodiversity

- How we develop differently

- Autistic trauma

- Dysregulation & Emotional Processing

- Other Neurodevelopmental Conditions (Dyspraxia, ADHD, etc)

- Pathological Demand Avoidance & Oppositional Defiance Disorder

- Mental Health Conditions such as Anxiety Disorders, Eating disorders, etc

- Physical Health Conditions such as EDS, IBS, etc

It is useful to have a background understanding of sensory differences (inc differences in pain processing and interoception) before attending.

Even if your child does not receive a diagnosis of autism following assessment, the strategies you learn on this session are likely to still prove helpful.

This workshop will be delivered by an SEND professional and an experienced SEND parent carer.
