This is a self-harm awareness session for parents and carers and takes into account the parental perspective and the emotions that can arise when talking about self-harm with your young person. The aim of the session is to build confidence around the subject of self-harm by reducing stigma, anxiety and fear.
The session will cover:
Statistics
Definition of self-harm
Triggers
Functions
How to broach suspected self-harm including focusing upon stopping.
What to say/not to say in response to self-harm
Best practice response to a disclosure including language use
The session is being facilitated by Satveer Nijjar from Attention Seekers who has many years of experience speaking about this subject in schools, colleges and to mental health professionals.
This is a free training event for parent carers of children with additional needs and/or disabilities within North Somerset. This event is also open to professionals in North Somerset who work with children/young people with additional needs and/or disabilities. Priority on place allocation will therefore be given to residents in North Somerset but if additional spaces are available these will be allocated to parent carers outside of North Somerset at our discretion.
The funding is being granted through Pears Foundation’s trusted, long-term Partners to ensure funding gets to frontline organisations and their communities.
