Suicide Prevention in Young People

In this session, Maggie Cameron MBE, will provide help to attendees on navigating this sensitive topic with their young person. She will cover how to spot the signs of possible issues, help you understand how to broach the subject of suicide with your young person, talk about the importance of listening to your young person, the importance of self-care and the 'safe plan'. She will also cover how to build up resilience in your young person to enable them to tackle difficult issues.

Due to the sensitive nature of the content, it is only appropriate for parent carers of young people aged 8 and over.

Maggie has many years of experience volunteering with the Samaritans and she is also a member of various Bristol suicide prevention groups, and been involved with Step by Step, a support service helping schools prepare for and recover from a suspected or attempted suicide.

She was awarded an MBE in 2020 for outstanding services to the Samaritans and Suicide Prevention.

This is a free training event for parent carers of children with additional needs and/or disabilities in North Somerset.
