Length of Time waiting to receive support is too long

We Did:

·         The average waiting time to start an autism assessment once the referral has been accepted is 22 weeks – this has reduced from 34 weeks in May 2021.

·         A Waiting List Initiative has started.  A cohort of 70 children and young people who have been assessed by the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Nurse, and who are waiting for a final diagnostic meeting to take place with the Consultant Community Paediatrician are included in the initiative.  The imitative will reduce the time children and families are waiting for an autism assessment.

Families have told us that communication and information sharing needs improvement.

We Did:

·         The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is working with health leaders and parent/carers to develop digital solutions to this issue.  Concepts being explored are:  online Social Communication Questionnaires; a Recommended Resources website and regular email updates for families while they are on the waiting list.
